The Concrete Polishing Process
How we do it!
The concrete polishing process begins with our team cleaning and inspecting your concrete for damage, such as cracking, chipping, and flaking. If any damage is present, we’ll need to repair it before continuing. Once any repairs have been made, we’ll begin the rough grind. The coarse grind is performed to remove any minor blemishes and uneven spots and to prep the floor for the final polishing. We start the rough grind with a 30 or 40-grit diamond grinding wheel and progressively use finer grits to end with a 150-grit wheel. After the rough grind, we’ll use an impregnating sealer to protect the floor from the inside out that hardens and densifies the concrete. With the sealer in place, we can begin the final polishing. This starts with a 100 or 200-grit resin-bond polishing wheel, and like the rough grind, we’ll move to a finer grit with each pass. Typically, we finish the floor with a 1,500 or 3,000-grit polishing wheel, depending on the level of sheen desired for your floor. Once the polishing is completed, your floor is ready for full use!
